Archin Canyon part 1: Introduction.
Archin Canyon
Archin Canyon is a fascinating country. From mountains and snows in the North to sand and cities in the south, practically everything one could possibly want is in there. On another note, everything one could possibly not want is there too. Dragons, griffins, Narki, trolls, hunger, thirst, death of heat and cold, fire, ice, sickness, thorns, precipices, and death, all at a hundredth of the usual prices. It is said that though the birth rate more than decuples other countries, so does the death rate. Funerals are a once-a-week occurrence, and so are births. One could note that Archin Canyon has very strong families, so that they have as many divorces in a century as we have in an hour.
Let us attempt to lay out an outline of this fascinating country. We will analyze its geography, history, politics, people, fauna, flora, and more.
Today, though, let us start with an overview. Archin Canyon is a large country, almost a subcontinent. The North nearly touches the Northern Oceanic Mountains, and the south nears the Bridge. This country is divided into five sections. They are as follows: north, south, east, west, and middle. The middle is much of a mystery, and few archins go there. As such, most of this series will concern the North, South, East, and West. The North is by far the largest from these, though with a smaller population. The South is smaller, but it has a lot of metropolitans, and as such, it has a massive population. The West is composed mainly of small villages, as compared to the East, which mostly is just grassland with a large city in the middle.
A quick overview of the four sections will be detailed here.
First, the North. This gigantic section is what people usually think of when they think of Archin Canyon. This region is of a frigid climate, with snow and ice and frozen rivers and many nasty things of that sort. It also has a sizeable number of mountains. The exact geography awaits another post.
The people of the North are hardy and strong. They are always well armed, and ready for war. They live in very small communities, sometimes with each extended family living alone. Their primary way of living is hunting and gathering the few herbs that can survive. In that region, few plants grow, but many animals. The animals all are carnivores, except the deer and goats, which eat the plants and lichens that grow. As such, the food chain is based on deer and goats.
Next, the East. This land is mostly boring grasslands, except for one city in the middle. This city hosts The Library, the largest library in all of the world. It has "every single book worth reading." The people and culture are very classical, wearing three-piece suits and top hats, with umbrellas and briefcases to match. The main way of living is tourism, of course. Many come for the city's famous restaurants, hotels, concerts, operas, and museums, and, of course, The Library.
The West consists of large, green mountains, covered with trees and grass, separating small valleys, where small villages reside, with their inhabitants. The inhabitants wear simple clothes, though they do keep weapons at their sides. They raise livestock and grow farms, and it is from this region that most of the food in East and South archin canyon comes from.
The South is mainly touristic. It has huge metropolitans, with hotels, spas, restaurants, luxury resorts, parks, and more. Some people consider it to be similar to the east, just far more extravagant and luxurious, less classy, and with less intellectual stimulation. I disagree. I will delve into the details in another post.
This article is the first in a series that will cover the whole country, from beginning to end. Hopefully, we will continue on to look at other countries.
